![]() ![]() 'Ninja' is a shorthand for palette swaps. In Errons case, it makes sense that hed wear one, as hes a cowboy. Force feed me two soldier girls, who are copying their parents, and you lose my interest. I think Nightwolf also has a mask for one of his skins in MK11, but hes not a ninja. You see for those of you who didn’t know, in the first ever Mortal Kombat game, Reptile was. Which is awesome, but also kind of weird considering Reptile’s origin. Debuting in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as a palette swap of Scorpion, Ermac. Give them another color, make them do crazy stuff and you have my attention. In regards to Reptile, he went from being a second palette swap of Scorpion to a weird lizard man who exudes a near-constant haze of fart gas. A white palette-swapped Mortal Kombat ninja seems like a no-brainer, but one. I legit wouldn't have complained at all, if we would have gotten more new ninjas. The criteria for a character to classify as a ninja by design (at least back in the earlier games) is often seen wearing a mask, a combo of a hood/cowl and a tabard for male. Ninja is a loosely used term in the actual sense of ninjas regarding the Mortal Kombat franchise, thus they are a very prominent group of characters. But just by being ninjas they are so much more appealing. Ninjas are a common character type featured in the Mortal Kombat series. And these two characters are arguably less fleshed out storywise. While at the same time most fans would take Smoke and Rain over Kotal Khan in an instant. As the roster grew with subsequent entries, so did the number of ninja and ninja-inspired characters. But once that part is over, we're left with Ancient Ogre. Yes, it's interesting to see how Kotal Khans story will unfold, when (if at all) he meets Shao Khan. I don't think that 10 years down the road Kotal Khan and Jacqui Briggs will have won as many players over as Kenshi did. Kenshi has become a fan favorite, but Kenshi too has some ninja / samurai elements to him. Mortal Komabt has moved past its palette-swapped ninja roots and now all of the characters who initially were just color variants have been fleshed out. Most of them strike me as so forgetable.Īnd while the 3D era added mostly non-ninjas as well, these old characters didn't age well. Now I'm not saying that they're getting worse storywise or anything. Concerning MKs most popular characters, it would be a good/great idea to keep the ninja palette swap of the characters from MK1 because of the following reasons. To me it feels like Mortal Kombat is losing its identity with MKX and MK11. That being said, it’s still an objectively cool look. Though his vest being in the same shape as the iconic ninja vest is a fun nod, this costume strays too far from Smokes original appeal. Check out our popular trivia games like Mortal Kombat Characters, and All Mortal Kombat Characters. It's not like they're cowboys and have lost their appeal with the death of wild wild west movies. While its understandable to make efforts to individualize the palette swap ninja characters, this incarnation looks almost nothing like Smoke. All Mortal Kombat Characters unfinished version. The returning MKX characters aren't ninjas either.Īm I crazy to assume that most of us fell in love with Mortal Kombat due to the many cool ninjas the franchise has at its disposal? Ninjas are always cool. Maybe a cowboy-ninja and that's me being generous. ![]()
